The round-the-island bus is a great way of getting around Rarotonga... It operates along the coast road in both directions, originating in Avarua (though you can flag it down anywhere). It is run by Cook’s Island Bus Passenger Transport Limited who offer convenient low cost transport. The bus will pick you up and drop you off anywhere on request, but remember that there is no service on Sunday evenings!
